Image Converter

Drop photos in, pick a format, and get them back converted — on your machine, with no upload, no file-size cap and no batch limit.

What it converts. Sources: HEIC, HEIF, WebP, AVIF, PNG, JPG, JPEG, JPE, JFIF, TIFF, TIF, GIF, SVG, PSD, ICO and camera RAW (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG and similar). Targets: JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, GIF, ICO and PDF.

How to use it

1. Open Image Converter from the sidebar.
2. Drop photos onto the Drop photos here zone, or click it to browse. Add as many as you like.
3. Each photo appears in a list with a short badge showing how it will be handled — Rename, HEIC, RAW, PSD, SVG, ICO or PDF. A file that cannot be converted to your chosen target is dimmed and given a reason rather than silently dropped.
4. Pick a format under Convert to.
5. Set your options, then press the convert button. The batch is queued as one job.

Options explained

• Quality — a 1–100 slider, shown only for the formats it affects (JPG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF). PNG, TIFF, GIF and ICO are written losslessly and ignore it. The default is 82.
• Keep EXIF and colour profile — on by default. Keeps the capture date, camera details and colour profile in the converted file. Turn it off, or use Privacy Scrub, if you want that information gone.

HEIC and the HEIF Image Extension

Windows does not ship a HEIC decoder on every machine. PhotoTray checks for one the moment you open this panel — not when a conversion fails — and if it is missing and you have HEIC photos selected, a notice appears with two buttons:

• Get the HEIF Image Extension — opens the free Microsoft Store extension. It installs in about ten seconds.
• I've installed it — check again — re-checks without restarting PhotoTray.

Other formats in the same batch convert regardless, so the notice never blocks you.

Output

Saved to the Converted Images subfolder of your output folder.

If something goes wrong here

• HEIC photos fail while everything else converts. The HEIF Image Extension is missing. Use the two buttons above, then re-run the batch.
• A file is dimmed and will not convert. The reason is printed under its name — the source and target pair is not supported. Pick a different target.
• JPG to JPEG "did nothing". It did exactly the right thing: changing between JPG, JPEG and JFIF is a rename, not a re-encode, so there is no quality loss and no waiting.
• The whole drop was rejected. PhotoTray reports "No supported photos in that drop" when nothing in the selection carries a recognised extension.
