Everything below runs on your own machine, on as many files as you give it.

Rename by the date taken

Not the file's modified date, which every copy and backup resets — the DateTimeOriginal the camera wrote when the shutter fired.

File into dated folders

Year and month folders, built automatically from the same EXIF date. One structure, applied to everything, instead of whatever each import decided.

Find real duplicates

Perceptual hashing catches the same photo saved twice at different sizes or quality — not just byte-identical files, which is the easy half of the problem.

You choose what goes

Duplicate sets are shown side by side for you to decide on. Nothing is deleted automatically, ever — this is the one tool in the belt that never runs unattended.

Reads HEIC and RAW too

The EXIF date is read from HEIC, RAW, JPEG, TIFF and PNG alike, so an iPhone import and a camera card sort into the same structure.

Rescans are quick

Results are remembered between runs, so a second scan only looks at what actually changed rather than re-reading the whole drive.

This is the one tool that will never run automatically. Deciding which copy of a photo to keep needs a person, so Photo Organizer is deliberately excluded from folder rules — it cannot be scheduled and cannot delete anything on its own. Scans are also on demand: PhotoTray does not run a background indexer over your drive.
