Background Remover
Removes the background from an image with an on-device AI model, leaving a clean cutout of the subject. Keep the background transparent, fill it with a colour, or drop in a replacement image.
What it accepts. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, AVIF and BMP — single images or a whole batch.
How to use it
- Open Background Remover.
- Drop images onto Drop images here or press Choose images….
- Choose a Background:
- Transparent PNG — the subject on a transparent background.
- Solid color — pick from the colour swatch or type a hex value like
#ffffff. An invalid value is flagged and blocks the run. - Replace with image — press Choose background… and pick another image.
- Choose When a cutout finishes: Open the image, Reveal in Explorer, or Do nothing. This applies to single images only; batches are left in the output folder.
- (Optional) Press Preview first image for a Before / After comparison at reduced size, so you can check your colour or replacement choice before committing to a large batch.
- Press Remove background. Each image becomes its own job.
Output
Saved to the Background Remover subfolder, named after the original with a -nobg suffix — for
example photo-nobg.png. Every result is a PNG, even when the background is opaque.
If something goes wrong here
- The cutout has cut into the subject, or left background behind. Low-contrast photos, where the subject blends into what is behind it, are the hardest case for the model. Use Preview first image before running a batch so you find this out on one photo, not fifty.
- The Remove background button will not activate. Either no images are selected, the hex colour is invalid, or Replace with image is chosen without a background image picked.
