Will converting to PNG improve my photo?

Will the file get bigger?

Yes, usually several times bigger on a photograph. That is the cost of lossless storage.

Does this add a transparent background?

No. PNG can store transparency but converting does not create any — the image arrives fully opaque. Cutting a subject out is a separate job, and Background Remover does it.
