JFIF to JPG Converter

You saved a picture from a website or an email and Windows handed you a .jfif you cannot open by double-clicking. It is not a broken file and it is not an unusual format — a JFIF is a JPEG. PhotoTray confirms that and renames it, instantly, with nothing re-encoded and nothing lost.

Why convert

Why JFIF files happen, and what to do about them

JFIF stands for JPEG File Interchange Format, and it is the specification that describes how JPEG data is actually stored in a file. Every ordinary .jpg on your machine is a JFIF. The extension turns up when a Windows registry association gets changed — often by a browser or an email client — and suddenly saved images arrive named .jfif instead of .jpg. The picture is fine; the label is unhelpful.

  • Images saved from a browser that started arriving as .jfif.
  • Photos out of an email client that Windows Photos refuses to open.
  • A folder of downloads with inconsistent extensions.
  • Getting a .jfif into a site that only accepts .jpg.

How it works

Convert JFIF to JPG in a few clicks

  1. 1

    Drop your JFIF files in

One or a folder full. They can be mixed in with other formats.

  2. 2

    PhotoTray verifies each file

It reads the file header to confirm the JPEG signature rather than trusting the extension, so a mislabelled file never gets a name that lies about it.

  3. 3

    It renames, and that's it

Instant, lossless, identical bytes. Your photos open normally from then on.
